Introduction
This book is an attempt to integrate in one place all of the information essential to successfully raising monarchs and preserving and expanding their habitat. Hopefully, it will inspire individuals, teachers, scout leaders, and parks and recreation staff to preserve what habitat they have and add more where possible. It’s also hoped the book will inspire community education classes so individuals and families can learn about and try the process of raising monarchs and planting milkweed. There are few activities that give as much satisfaction and put you more in touch with the natural world around you.

There are three editions of this book— two of them free and one at a very affordable price.
- An on-line HTML edition is available at www.monarchguide.com. In addition to the contents of this book, the Web site also has a discussion forum where you and others can exchange experiences
- A low resolution PDF edition can be downloaded for free and you are welcome to share it with others— in fact the more it’s shared the better it is.
- In this edition only some of the animations and other links to resources are active so you can get a feeling for what they are like in the high resolution edition and on the Web site. We’ve limited the number of active animations and other hot links to reduce the load on our servers.
- You can’t print the free edition because we have dramatically compressed the file so it’s small enough for you to quickly download from our site and e-mail to friends. Although readable on the screen, this highly compressed version would not make an easily readable printout.
- A high resolution PDF edition is available on a CD or as an instant download at minimal cost, with funds raised used to support the site and free monarch publishing program. This edition can be printed, and all of its clickable links are active. This edition is ideal for self-study or classroom use, and the CD makes a great gift for family, friends and customers. This version is
not copy protected in any way, so you can easily move it from one computer to another. All we ask is that you not share copies of it with others.
